the coating can come off, but the recoil spring is well worth the $9 investment when running light handloads.

You can feel the difference right away. I ordered the tungsten guide rod, a retaining washer and the 14lb recoil spring. GW assembled all three for me which was a plus, so all i had to do was lube it and drop it in. After about 600 rounds with the new spring, I started to notice little red flakes coming off of the recoil spring. They(GW) state that the coating will last 3000 rounds, but I find this very unlikely. For $9, you can't beat it and you might as well order a couple of them just incase one breaks. All in all, good product but 14lbs may be a little light for 40s&W, I would like to see a 15lb spring in the future to get better barrel lock in the slide. Thanks
